Are you a current U15, U16, U17 or U18's player? Are you interested in traveling to Europe to play against top level clubs in Ireland, England and Italy as well as play in the Prestigious Iber Cup in Portugal?
This year SoCal Select will be taking a U16 and a U18 team to the most prestigious tournament in the World, the Iber Cup in Portugal. Besides participation in this 6 day tournament we will spend 5 nights in Dublin, 3 nights in London, 3 nights in Rome and 2 nights in the La Spezia and the Cinque Terre, Ligurian Coast (Italy). You will not only have the opportunity to play some of the best club teams in Europe, we will also be touring and seeing the sites of these four amazing countries.
Who can go? We will be taking two teams: U16 and U18.
Who are we? SoCal Select started as a competitive women's soccer club in 2007 comprised of former collegiate players wanting to continue playing soccer at a high level after their college career. For the past 10 years, each summer SoCal Select has traveled internationally with a core group of players from their women's team and held tryouts for an additional 8-10 players for their travel team. The past five years, SoCal Select has also provided an opportunity for a youth team to travel with them. The SoCal Select youth teams are only summer travel teams and tryouts are open to any high level players meeting the age requirements. This year SoCal Select is looking to take two youth teams to participate in the Iber Cup as well as play in 5 additional international friendly matches in Italy, Ireland and England.
More specifics about the trip:
In Dublin, Ireland we will spend a total of two nights, our first night and our last night. We will be playing one friendly matches, see the sites and enjoy the culture and hospitality of some of the friendliest people in the world. From Dublin it's off to Italy. We will fly into Milan, Italy and then transfer by bus to La Spezia and the Cinque Terre. We will be staying in La Spezia (7 minute train ride to the Cinque Terre). The Cinque Terre is part of Tuscany and is truly one of the most breathtaking sites in the world. It consists of 5 ancient fishing villages located along the cost of the Ligurian Sea. We do not have a planned match here but we will be going on a 6 mile hike along the cliffs of the Cinque Terre. From the Cinque Terre we will head to Florence. Florence has amazing architecture and is known as the art capital of Italy. We will only visit for a few hours and the then head to Rome, where we will spend the next two nights. Rome is another one of Europe's most popular destinations. In Rome will see the Coliseum, Trevi Fountain and the Vatican. From Rome we will travel by train to Naples, Italy. In Naples, we will see the sites of as well as visit the historic city of Pompeii. We will play two friendly matches during our stay in Italy.
Our next six days will be spent at the Iber Cup in Esotril, Portugal. Estoril is located about 20 minutes east of Lisbon. Estoril is known for its beautiful beaches . For those who are unfamiliar with the Iber Cup, this prestigious tournament hosts more then 1000 teams from 80 countries. Attracting top professional academy programs from some of the best teams in Europe. Last year's tournament participants included Liverpool FC and RCD Espanyol, Barcelona just to name a few. The opening ceremonies of the tournament are incredible with all the participants marching in the stadium behind their country's flag. Each team will play a game a day and have the remainder of the day to go to the beach, explore and tour. All breakfasts will be at the hotel, the lunch and dinners will be at the tournament headquarters with the rest of the participating teams. Before we return to Dublin we will stop over in London for three nights, London is loaded with history and tradition. We will have the opportunity to see Buckingham Palace, tower of London, Westminster Abbey, just to mention a few of the cities historical sites. We will be playing one friendly in London before
What's the cost?
The trip includes the following: All air transportation (7 flights -round trip LAX to Dublin, Dublin to London, London to Genoa, Rome to Portugal, Portugal to Dublin), all hotels, all breakfasts, most dinners, lunch during the tournament, all ground transportation, tournament and friendly games. The cost of the trip will be about $3300 +/- 5% for players and $3200 +/- 5% for parents and supporters, The reason for the range is that the European flights on Ryan Air and Easy Jet must be paid in full at the time of b00king which means exact cost cannot be determined until that time. Also, the cost is based on triple occupancy (there are some quads available for families of four). If you would like double occupancy the entire trip, it is available and will be about $250 extra per person. At the Iber Cup all breakfasts are at the hotel, and lunches and dinners are at the tournament headquarters. Parents and family members cost is reduced by $100 because the lunch and dinner component at the Iber cup is not included.
